10 Ιουλ 2020 · Barrel life depends on interactions between several factors and is therefore difficult to make half-way accurate guesstimates. Factors are: Powder charge to calibre (bore area) ratio - the bigger the powder charge (= energy) fed down the smaller hole, the faster the wear.

Furthermore, it is quite possible to drive 120 grain bullets at 3000fps and the 140 grain bullet weight at 2800fps from 24” barrels with long case life, using either of the above powders and careful load development. There are a vast range of projectiles for the 6.5mm fan to choose from.
11 Ιουλ 2024 · 6.5×55 vs 6.5 Creedmoor: Barrel Life. This is always guesswork, and probably the best estimate is 2,000 to 3,000 rounds of first-class accuracy for both cartridges.
21 Δεκ 2007 · I understand barrel life is good, and guessing about 3000-5000 rounds, or more, if not hot rodded. i would like to see 142SMK go 2750-2850fps. Speculation can be read all over the internet, so lets not guess, I can do that.
29 Δεκ 2011 · Back your loads down to 2800-2850 and have a long barrel life and exceptional accuracy while doing that. Those bullets have plenty of BC to get you out there competitively at those speeds with no problem.
Re: LAPUA 6.5 X 55 Ranger1183, What sort of barrel life are you getting? A good shooting buddy runs 6.5x284 in one of his F-class rifles but only expects just over 1000 rounds as a barrel life for the prime accuracy, normally has 2 or 3 barrels made up at a time.
I could shoot the same bullets faster and still get decent (1500+ rounds) barrel life. Another appealing aspect was that the cartridge thrived on the readily available H4831sc powder. Finally, top-quality Lapua brass was available and cost less than $1 per piece.
