What Is A P-trap And How Does It Work? A P-trap is a u-shaped bend in the waste pipe that connects an appliance’s drain to the sewer line. It is called a P-trap because of its shape, which resembles the letter “P”. It is designed to trap noxious sewer gases inside the wastewater system so that they cannot rise back up through the drain.
