28 Φεβ 2020 · Beginning on March 15, 2011, only dogs are recognized as service animals under titles II and III of the ADA. A service animal is a dog that is individually trained to do work or perform tasks for a person with a disability.
Service animals are: Dogs. Any breed and any size of dog. Trained to perform a task directly related to a person’s disability. Service animals are not: Required to be certified or go through a professional training program. Required to wear a vest or other ID that indicates they’re a service dog.

Under Title II and III of the ADA, service animals are limited to dogs. However, entities must make reasonable modifications in policies to allow individuals with disabilities to use miniature horses if they have been individually trained to do work or perform tasks for individuals with disabilities.
