Agricultural ecosystems provide humans with food, forage, bioenergy and pharmaceuticals and are essential to human wellbeing. These systems rely on ecosystem services provided by natural ecosystems, including pollination, biological pest control, maintenance of soil structure and fertility, nutrient cycling and hydrological services.
Agroecosystems, are defined as communities of plants and animals interacting with their physical and chemical environments that have been modified by people to produce food, fibre, fuel and other products for human consumption and processing (Maes, 2018).
Food and agricultural systems. Agriculture is a vital human activity that deeply impacts, but also deeply relies on nature. Agriculture is expected to cover an increasing world food, feed, fiber and fuel demand for 8.5 billion people in 2030.
