Live slugs that are accidentally eaten with improperly cleaned vegetables (such as lettuce), or improperly cooked slugs (for use in recipes requiring larger slugs such as banana slugs), can act as a vector for a parasitic infection in humans.
In fact, most slugs are entirely harmless to humans. While some people may experience skin irritation or an allergic reaction to contact with certain species of slugs, these instances are relatively rare and usually not life-threatening.
