The Armenian alphabet (Armenian: Հայոց գրեր, Hayocʼ grer or Հայոց այբուբեն, Hayocʼ aybuben) or, more broadly, the Armenian script, is an alphabetic writing system developed for Armenian and occasionally used to write other languages.

The Armenian Alphabet was invented in 405 AD by Mesrop Mashtots with the assistance of Sahak Partev in order to translate the Bible into Armenian. It is said that some letters of the Armenian alphabet were based on the Greek ones.
