With the proper AT&T email settings, you don't need to use Att.net's webmail interface to check your emails or send messages. Mailspring, Outlook Express, Apple Mail, and Mozilla Thunderbird can all be used to access and send messages easily.

I have searched the internet for hours trying to find out why Thunderbird will not connect to my att.net email account. I have searched the AT&T site for a solution to this. I can log in to my att.net account via web mail.
