At about 8:15 AM on August 6, 1945, Hiroshima became the first city in the world to be struck with an atomic bomb. Most of the city was destroyed. Estimates of the number of people killed outright or shortly after the blast have ranged upward from 70,000.
It is 75 years since the US dropped atomic bombs on the Japanese cities of Hiroshima and Nagasaki on 6 and 9 August, leading to the end of World War Two.
