Follow the movements of Bald Eagle A-46 (aka Stephen Jr), named by the San Francisco Zoo after CBS's Stephen Colbert ("The Late Show with Stephen Colbert"). Hatched April, 17 2006 at the San Francisco Zoo as part of California’s Bald Eagle breeding program.
These regal birds aren’t really bald, but their white-feathered heads gleam in contrast to their chocolate-brown body and wings. Look for them soaring in solitude, chasing other birds for their food, or gathering by the hundreds in winter.
Bald Eagle. In 2007 CCB initiated a wide-scale bald eagle tracking study, following the movements of eagles throughout the Chesapeake Bay and beyond. Eagles from three source populations were trapped and tagged with GPS or GSM transmitters.
