Black Cap is the archetype "little mountain with big views" - though in the modest 2000-2500 foot camp, the mountain's extensive open ledges offer panoramic views over the Conway valley to the imposing Moat Mountain ridge and higher summits beyond.
Black Cap Mtn is about 1.1 mile hike. The trail is easy for all ages. I saw anywhere from 8 yrs to over 60s hiking. Plenty of open spaces to walk or if you have mtn bikes. It's free to get in. Once you get up the peak of the mountain the view is really pretty. The trail markings are easy to find.
Black Cap is located just behind Cranmore Mountain, and the summit gives you views of the ski area and North Conway with the Mt. Washington Valley all around it. About 0.5 miles from the summit of Black Cap, you'll have the option to either go up the shorter foot path, or the longer multi-use path.
It is approximately 3.5 miles off Route 16 in Intervale. The trail, located in a spruce and beech forest, leads to a bare summit. The rocky summit provides views of Maine and New Hampshire's White Mountains.
We ascended Black Cap first and then descended via the Black Cap Spur and Black Cap Connector Trails to the junction with the Cranmore Mt. Trail. The area between the two mountains has several mountain biking trails which are marked with blue and white signs.
