When introduced, the Boss Mustang was offered in two variants: the Boss 302 and the Boss 429. The Boss 302 was basically a high performance fastback Mustang, with some aesthetic upgrades to accompany the beefed up 302 cubic inch engine. The standard 302 (F Code) made 220 horsepower, but the Boss 302 (G Code) engine offered an extra 70 horsepower.
Although the Boss 429 was produced almost solely on the premise of certifying its engine for competitive use, this legendary Mustang also exuded a significant degree of cosmetic curb appeal.
