The first troop in the islands, appropriately numbered Troop 1, was founded by a British Scouter just recently relocated, and chartered to Kawaiahaʻo Church. One Saturday, former Queen Liliʻuokalani was driven past Kapiʻolani Park in Honolulu , and noticed this troop going through Scouting drills .

How it Works. Scouts BSA offers a variety of troop structures to accommodate the needs and preferences of families, providing flexibility for both boys and girls to participate in Scouting. There are three main types of Troops: Single-Gender Troops: These are all-boy or all-girl Troops that operate separately, following the same Scouting program.
In 2012, not long after moving to the Big Island, as the island of Hawaii is known, Truman Wold revived Troop 1, which is celebrating its 90th birthday this year. Based in tiny Pa’auilo (population 586), the 14-member troop now serves boys from across the northern part of the island and will soon be joined by a girls’ troop.

6 Μαρ 2020 · In later years the patrol was renamed Troop 1 to codify its status as Hawaiʻi’s original Boy Scout troop; it includes not only the students of Punahou, but also boys attending schools located all over the island of Oahu. Hawaiʻi has a royal link to Boy Scouts.
