Celebrity Fitness commenced operations in February 2004 in Jakarta. In 2005, Celebrity Fitness entered the Malaysian market with its first club in Kuala Lumpur. This is located at 1 Utama Shopping Centre in Petaling Jaya, Selangor, Malaysia. The Malaysian business expanded in 2009 with the purchase of California Fitness (Malaysia) gyms.
In August 2008, California Fitness and 24 Hour Fitness were terminated. In 2009, Malaysian branches of CalFit were sold to Celebrity Fitness, whose founders also had ties to 24 Hour Fitness. Despite company changes, California WOW Xperience is still frequently confused with California Fitness.

California Fitness, one of Asia's leading fitness companies, has announced that it has sold its three fitness clubs in Malaysia to Celebrity Fitness. The California Fitness Group, a wholly owned subsidiary of 24-Hour Fitness Worldwide, continues to own and operate its mYoga club at The Gardens shopping mall in Kuala Lumpur.
Hong Kong-based California Fitness has sold three of its fitness clubs in Malaysia to rival chain Celebrity Fitness.
