Two flood water sensors in Chambers County, Texas survived Ike's storm surge, while those on eastern Bolivar Peninsula were left inoperable during the hurricane. Along the Eastern shores of Galveston Bay surge heights were measured at 16.9 feet (5.2 m) and a measurement along SH126 measured 17.0 feet (5.2 m).
14 Ιουν 2023 · One of the most deadly and most powerful hurricanes in Texas history, Category 2 Hurricane Ike landed in Galveston on Sept. 13. Hurricane Ike damaged many areas around the Gulf Coast, including Chambers County.
Ike’s 4.6 m (15-ft) storm surge caused a massive swath of damage, stretching from Galveston, Texas, east across all of coastal Louisiana. The surge covered hundreds of kilometers of the Gulf Coast because the hurricane was such a large storm.
Hurricane Ike made landfall at Galveston Island at 2:10 a.m. Saturday, September 13, 2008 with 110 mph sustained winds, a strong Category 2. The landfall of Ike resulted in extensive storm surge flooding, wind damage and rainfall flooding across all of Harris and surrounding counties.

Ike was an extremely large Category 2 hurricane with hurricane-force winds extending outward up to 120 miles (195 km) from the center and tropical storm-force winds extending outward up to 275 miles (445 km). At its biggest, Ike would have covered most of Texas.
