Claiborne Farm is a thoroughbred horse breeding operation near Paris, Kentucky. It was established in 1910 by Arthur B. Hancock, owner of Ellerslie Stud in Albemarle County, Virginia, and has been operated by members of his family ever since. [1]
Claiborne Farm in Paris, Kentucky has been a Thoroughbred operation for over 100 years. Founded in 1910, the farm is the birthplace of more than 80 Champion racehorse and has been home to world-renowned stallions including Secretariat. We offer guided tours 7 days* a week.
The world-renowned Kentucky Thoroughbred farm, Claiborne, has origins in Virginia. There, Civil War veteran Capt. Richard Hancock raised Thoroughbreds on his wife’s family’s Ellerslie Farm. The move to Kentucky came with the next generation when Capt. Hancock’s son, Arthur B. Hancock, established a second farm on his own wife’s property.
