In June 2010, a 6-year-old girl and a 3-year-old girl were attacked and seriously injured in separate attacks by coyotes in Rye, New York. The 6-year-old was attacked by two coyotes on June 25 and the 3-year-old was attacked by one coyote on June 29.
Potential does exist for coyote attacks in New York. However, a little perspective may be in order. On average, 650 people are hospitalized and one person killed by dogs each year in New York State.
