Crater Lake National Park. Crater Lake National Park covers an area of 250 square miles (650 km 2), including forest areas, alpine terrain, the Crater Lake, and the vast majority of Mount Mazama. A wilderness area, it was dedicated in 1902 and is overseen by the National Park Service.
Mount Mazama is one of the major volcanoes of the Cascades Arc. Crater Lake is located within the collapsed caldera of Mount Mazama on the crest of the Cascade Range in southern Oregon about 90 km (55 mi) north of the city of Klamath Falls and about 100 km (60 mi) northeast of Medford.
31 Οκτ 2023 · Mount Mazama was formed as a succession of overlapping cones and shields during a period of relatively continuous volcanic activity that lasted nearly half a million years, from about 420 to 40 ka. The first eruptions built Mount Scott, located just east of Crater Lake.
Mount Mazama is located in the southern part of the Cascade Range, about sixty miles north of the Oregon-California state line. It holds Crater Lake (giiwas in the Klamath language), at 1,943 feet the deepest freshwater body of water in the United States.
