Wizard Island is a volcanic cinder cone which forms an island at the west end of Crater Lake in Crater Lake National Park, Oregon. The top of the island reaches 6,933 feet (2,113 m) above sea level, about 755 feet (230 m) above the average surface of the lake.
2 Νοε 2022 · The last known eruption at Crater Lake occurred when a small lava dome erupted underwater on the east flank of the base of Wizard Island about 4,800 years ago. Since that time, the volcano has remained quiet, allowing as much as 30 m (100 ft) of sediment to accumulate on the lake bottom.
The weather-beaten curiously twisted trees on Wizard Island make for fine photos, especially when the background includes the deep blue waters of Crater Lake, and the curved shore of Crater Lake, situated at the base of a steep cliff.

This trail is a rocky climb to the top of Wizard Island with a path leading around the 90-foot-deep (27-meter) crater summit. Visitors who want to hike on Wizard Island must first descend to the lakeshore via Cleetwood Cove Trail .
Wizard Island consists of a symmetrical cinder cone almost completely encircled by dark, rugged flows of lava. The summit of the cone rises 763 feet above the the lake, and the area of the cone and lavas exposed above water approximates a square mile.
