The Nikon D3100 is a very competent and ultra-lightweight DSLR. It is small and light, but doesn't feel dinky. It feels like the precision product it is. The D3100 is Nikon's lightest SLR, ever, and probably their smallest, too. The next thing one notices is how uncannily quiet and refined it is.
This controls how the D3100 uses its 11 AF sensors. Default is MENU > SHOOTING > Viewfinder > Auto-Area AF, which is perfect for most things, and especially if you hand your D3100 to a non-photographer to take a picture.
29 Σεπ 2010 · For the D3100 and D40, I shot with a Nikon 50mm f/1.4 AF-S. For the D3 , I shot a 70-180mm Micro-NIKKOR set to 80mm to get the same angle-of view. I upsampled the D40 and D3 images to match the D3100 image, and then presented these as crops from much larger images.
