The Marathon Dam is a gravity dam on the Charadros River, near its junction with the Varnavas Stream, 8 km (5 mi) west of Marathon and 45 km (28 mi) northeast of Athens in Greece. The dam created Lake Marathon for the primary purpose of municipal water supply.

The Lake of Marathon is an artificial lake at a distance of about 45 km from the center of Athens. It serves as a water reservoir that supplies the city with drinking water. The dam was constructed from 1926 to 1929 to cover the growing needs of the capital for water after the huge immigration wave that followed the Asia Minor War (1919-1922).
