It does feel like Ayton is leaving a lot on the table in terms of potential, but some draft picks can be a liabilities or negative assets, so can't be too mad. And there can be frustrating times where a medicore player that was picked high is blocking minutes from a player who seems better but lacks pedigree, but never seemed to be the case for any of Aytons tenure.

However Ayton would be drafted over Deandre, Steven Adams, maybe Capela and Gobert because their offence is limited to 2-feet away from the ring, and todays drummond, if these centres were to get drafted today given their current skill.

I'm not saying DeAndre Ayton didn't have potential to be a great big but even realizing that potential would not have him looking like anything resembling David Robinson. David Robinson never needed a Chris Paul type to get busy on offense and there's a reason for that. He'll I'd sooner comp Ayton to Tim than 5-0
2 Οκτ 2023 · Ayton has basically been the exact same player since his rookie year. After 5 years he still can't really create for himself or others, can't really dribble, and he hasn't developed a 3 point shot. He has stretches where he doesn't produce, doesn't hustle for anything, and is visibly disengaged.

15 Ιουν 2021 · That being said he was a Top 15 player in Win Shares for the regular season at 8.4 (CP3 was the only sun to eclipse him at 9.4 WS and Bridges had an 8.0WS . Booker had only a 4.6WS) that might be more of a commentary on Win Shares as a statistic, but it made me ask myself “Just how good is Deandre Ayton?” And what is his ceiling.
Robinson was also an elite defensive center whereas Ayton is below average on that end. I also don't see Ayton ever averaging in the neighborhood of 30 PPG like prime Robinson considering Robinson was getting to the FT line 10 times a game whereas Ayton only gets there two or three times. These David Robinson comparisons are absolutely ridiculous.
14 Μαρ 2024 · he's actually been pretty solid for 2 or 3 weeks now. i say this as an Ayton hater who's been pleasantly surprised recently but still doesn't believe in him as a longterm part of our core. looks like 16 games ago was the turnaround, although there are a 1-2 bad games in that stretch. Ayton's first 27 games: 12.5/10 on 53% shooting
6 Μαΐ 2022 · He can shoot midrange shots. He is great at defense. He can make layups. He is one of the most important players on the Suns. Deandre Ayton is a very big reason why the Suns win games because he can score very well. I wish fans would respect Deandre Ayton because he is an amazing player who helps the Suns win their games.
