DSi XL is more comfortable to hold but the image is more pixilated because the res is the same but the screen is bigger. Currently, I prefer the smaller version. I'm biased since I've never used a DSi before, but the DSi XL is so incredible!

The DSi XL is certainly the better handheld, even though I have more nostalgia for the DS Lite. The larger screens, additional ram, and the ability to hack the DSi XL very easily means it gets my vote.
DS Lite is a good bargain with the GBA capability, DSI is better display quality and easily modded (and probably plays GBA games via the homebrew) Personally I have both and use the DSI more, but I play GBA games on a real GBA so the lite isn't touched much. Ds lite- comfort. Dsi- modding, homebrew and games of sd card.
