There is product called Email Signature Generator by cloudHQ which fixed this. I tired and it works ok. It still shows big images for a second but then they replaced with real one. The other workaround is to press Ctrl-Z (Command-Z) immediately after paste. That works sometimes - I guess it depends on timing or something.

Am now using 'Nine Email' app on Android. Its seems to have pulled the signature I've added via gmail.com (hosting the image on imgur). However I think it also needed to 'add' the signature to the Android app. Basically another step in Nine email, after uploading to image to signature on gmail.com. Hope that makes sense and helps!
