Sometimes it’s extolled the virtues of bravery and heroics, while at other times poets have held our ideas and ideals of ‘heroism’ and ‘heroes’ up for more critical scrutiny.
Epic poetry is a genre of literature characterized by lengthy narrative poems that recount heroic deeds, often involving legendary figures and grand adventures. These epics explore cultural values and mythologies, shaping the collective identity of societies across time.
What is an example of an epic poem? Poems like The Odyssey and The Iliad as both epic poems. Other examples are The Divine Comedy and The Metamorphoses. Milton’s Paradise Lost is one final famous example.
