When an incident such as an earthquake, hurricane, mass shooting or building collapse occurs where people might be in danger, global crisis reporting agencies alert Facebook. Safety Check will be activated when people in the affected area post about the incident.
Facebook Safety Check (sometimes called Facebook Crisis Response) is a feature managed by the social networking company Facebook. The feature is activated by the company during natural or man-made disasters and terror-related incidents to quickly determine whether people in the affected geographical area are safe.
When you receive a notification from Facebook asking if you're safe, click I'm Safe. Go to Crisis Response and select a Crisis page. On the Crisis page, click Safety Check. Under Friends in the area, you'll see a list of your friends who are Marked Safe and a list of your friends who are Not Marked Safe Yet.
Crisis Response is a place on Facebook where you can find information about recent crises, use Safety Check to connect with friends and loved ones during a crisis, give or find help to people in the affected area, and create or donate to fundraisers to support recovery efforts.
