More specifically, under the Act, the Government of Canada (the federal government) regulates licenses and authorizations for firearms, including prohibited or restricted firearms; the possession of prohibited or restricted weapons and any prohibited devices or ammunition; and licenses for the sale or transfer of cross-bows. Firearms. In accordance with the Firearms Act, the Canadian Firearms Program (CFP) oversees firearms licences and registration, maintains national firearm safety training standards, assists law enforcement agencies and aims to enhance public safety.
We are strengthening Canada’s gun laws with legislation that prioritizes public safety and effective police work, while respecting law-abiding firearms owners. Changes to the Criminal Code and Firearms act impact background checks, transfer and transport.
