Ellicott City Historic District is a national historic district in Ellicott City, Howard County, Maryland. The Ellicott City Station is a National Historic Landmark located within the district. The district encompasses a predominantly 19th century mill town whose origins date to 1772, including more than 200 18th- and 19th-century buildings. [ 2 ]
Historic Ellicott City sits on the Silurian or Ordovician Ellicott City Granodiorite. Outcrops can be seen lining Main Street. [citation needed] Several granite quarries were in operation in Ellicott City in the late 1800s and early 1900s. [citation needed]
For over 50 years, Historic Ellicott City, Inc. has strived to preserve and restore the Ellicott City Historic District and other historic Howard County landmarks.
Ellicott City’s Main Street district is situated on the Historic National Road and its architectural charm is showcased by over 200 18th and 19thcentury buildings and numerous historical attractions.
5 Ιουλ 2019 · Ellicott City is a five block historic district in Howard County, Maryland that is nestled in the scenic hills above the Patapsco River. Founded in 1772, the town has an old world charm and offers unique shopping and dining destinations.
The downtown area is called “Historic Ellicott City” or “Old Ellicott City.” It has a lot to offer. The area where Frederick Road turns into Main Street is very walkable and exudes charm and distinction at every turn. Here are some of the reasons we loved our visit to this special place.
