Recovery. You should be able to go home on the day of, or day after, your operation. You'll need to ask someone to take you home and you should follow any instructions you're given at hospital. After the operation, your groin will feel sore and uncomfortable.
Signs of infection can be subtle. The first sign will be an increase in pain, and the wound will look either pink or red and feel warm or hot to touch. If this happens, you will need to see your GP as soon as possible for treatment. Usually a course of antibiotics will clear the infection very quickly.
After surgery to treat an inguinal hernia in your groin, you will usually go home on the same day. You should be able to return to work and get back to your normal activities within a few days.
