Animal experiments suggest that intravenous immunoglobulins can reverse some of the disease process of central nervous system demyelination. Subsequently, clinical trials of intravenous immunoglobulins have been conducted in people with multiple sclerosis (MS).
Effective treatment of MS requires a multidisciplinary approach to manage acute attacks, prevent relapses and disease progression and treat the disabling symptoms associated with the disease. In this review, we discuss the pathogenesis of MS, management of acute relapses, disease-modifying therapies in MS, new drugs and drugs currently in trial ...
In general we consider IVIG as a third line for treatment of acute MS relapses after IVMP and plasma exchange (PLEX). We will consider IVIG treatment in the setting of acute relapse only if the patient was intolerant or fails to respond to both IVMP and PLEX.
15 Φεβ 2003 · Intravenous immunoglobulin (IVIG) has several effects on the immune system that could have a beneficial influence on disease processes in multiple sclerosis (MS). Owing to its anti-inflammatory properties, IVIG may be beneficial in the treatment of acute relapses and in prevention of new relapses.
Intravenous immunoglobulin (IVIg) has been used as an immunomodulatory therapy for the treatment of multiple sclerosis (MS). In the current review, we summarize the up-to-date data related to IVIg clinical trials in MS, and the suggested mechanisms of action by which IVIg modulates the relevant immu ….
Intravenous Immunoglobulin (IVIg) has demonstrated benefit in the treatment of some patients with relapsing-remitting MS. Concerns about adverse events of IVIg, mainly acute renal failure and thromboembolic events have been raised in the medical literature.
