Administrations of intravenous immunoglobulin (IVIG), an immune-modulating blood-derived product, may be beneficial for managing neuropathic pain. Here, we review previous studies to investigate the effectiveness of IVIG in managing neuropathic pain due to various neurological disorders.
There is Class I evidence for IVIg as an initial treatment for patients with Guillain-Barré syndrome (GBS), chronic inflammatory demyelinating polyneuropathy (CIDP), and multifocal motor neuropathy. It is as effective as plasma exchange in GBS and CIDP.
