The Fraternity was founded in 1911 with the motto of “Achievement In Every Field Of Human Endeavor”. Every member commits to the five objectives of Kappa Alpha Psi Fraternity, Inc. which are: To encourage honorable achievement in every field of human endeavor. To promote the spiritual, social, intellectual, and moral welfare of its members.
Since January 5, 1911, the men of Kappa Alpha Psi® have represented the very essence of achievement, in every field of human endeavor. We have grown to enjoy a footprint of close to 700 chapters in 400+ communities across the continental United States and in 13 overseas territories.
Kappa Alpha Psi is a member of the National Pan-Hellenic Council (NPHC) and the North American Interfraternity Conference (NIC). The fraternity is the oldest predominantly African American Greek-letter organization founded west of the Appalachian Mountains still in existence. It is known for its "cane stepping" in NPHC organized step shows.
