Friction is a force between two surfaces that are sliding, or trying to slide, across each other. You can find out more using this Bitesize KS2 Science guide.

A General Rule: Kinetic (sliding) friction is less than static (not moving) friction. Because moving surfaces are bouncing off each other with little less surface area interaction. Rolling Friction would have less friction (opposing force) than static or kinetic sliding friction.
Friction is a contact force and acts against the movement of an object. What are frictional forces? When an object is moving there are almost always forces which act against it, unless it is in a...
Friction is a force between two surfaces rubbing against each other. If the surfaces are smooth, there is less friction. If the surfaces are rough, there is more friction.
Kinetic friction acts between surfaces that are in motion relative to each other. To keep the object moving, force must be applied continuously; otherwise, kinetic friction will stop its movement. Factors That Influence Friction
