Le Morte d'Arthur Summary and Analysis of Book 20-21. Summary. Book 20 Chapters 1-7. Agravaine and Mordred confront Launcelot and Guenever while they are together in bed. Launcelot kills thirteen Knights of the Round Table during his escape, including Agravaine, King Arthur ’s nephew.
Arthur manages to force Mordred's army back to Salisbury Plain, where the two parties agree to do battle on the Monday after Trinity Sunday. The night before the battle, Arthur dreams that he's tied to a wheel that plunges into black water full of serpents and horrible beasts.

Chapter I: How Sir Mordred presumed and took on him to be King of England, and would have married the queen, his father's wife. Chapter II: How after that King Arthur had tidings, he returned and came to Dover, where Sir Mordred met him to let his landing; and of the death of Sir Gawaine.
Book 21 Summary. Arthur's army is called back to Camelot because Mordred has told the kingdom that Arthur has been killed. He has attempted to marry the Queen, (his father's wife and his uncle's wife,) but she has fooled him by asking to go to London to buy wedding clothes and then shutting herself in the Tower of London.
I shall endure you, Sir, by God’s grace, but wit thou well, Sir Gawaine, I will never smite a felled knight. And so Sir Launcelot went into the city; and Sir Gawaine was borne into King Arthur’s pavilion, and leeches were brought to him, and searched and salved with soft ointments.
