13 Οκτ 2021 · Les Paul's "Number One" Gibson Les Paul sold via Christie's auction house today for a total of $930,000 USD, in a lot that also included a circa-1954 Ampex Model 307 tape machine from Paul's home studio. The final price greatly exceeded the estimate, which had been set between $100,000 and $150,000.

14 Οκτ 2021 · Smashing its estimated price of $150,000, Les Paul's ‘Number One’ Les Paul guitar has been sold at auction for $930,000 through Christie's in New York. The Goldtop was the first of its kind to receive Paul’s approval, becoming his main performing guitar in the early ‘50s.

The Goldtop known as Les Paul’s number one and heavily modified by the electric guitar pioneer himself will be up for grabs as part of Christie’s Exceptional Sale in New York on 13 October 2021.
18 Αυγ 2021 · Les Paul’s “Number One” Goldtop guitar is being sold by Les Paul’s son, Gene Paul, and Tom Doyle, Paul’s long-time guitar builder, engineer, and producer. Gene Paul comments, “This was the most historically significant, valuable, pivotal, and important guitar to my father, his crowning achievement.”
Bidding has begun on one of the earliest Gibson Les Paul models in existence, heavily used and modified by Les Paul himself. The lot begun with an estimated price of between $100,000 and $150,000, but the final smashed that estimate, coming in at $930,000.
