Since 2015, 151 people have died performing construction work in NYC alone. Over 90% of these workers were never properly trained. You are 10 times more likely to be killed on a non union work site than a Union site. Union contractors invest millions of dollars annually to train their employees.
Iron Workers 197 is dedicated to building a bigger, better workforce of skilled union ironworkers and to recruiting and training the next generation of industry-best union ironworkers.
Local 46 provides trained professional Reinforcing Ironworkers and Lathers to commercial, industrial, and residential building contractors. Local Union 46 also operates an apprenticeship program to ensure the ongoing availability of trained, qualified workers.
About. The Joint Apprentice Committee (JAC) of Iron Workers Locals 40 & 361 is a full service training facility that administers the apprenticeship program for structural Iron Workers and Riggers in NYC and surrounding counties.

The Iron Workers and their contractors bought the building 23 years ago, and work together to train the Local 40 and 361 Iron Workers to be the safest and most professional in their industry.
