Learn how Mach number, speed of sound, and compressibility effects influence aircraft performance and design. Find out the subsonic, transonic, supersonic, and hypersonic speed ranges and their characteristics.
4 Οκτ 2024 · Mach buffet is the turbulence of air that occurs when an aircraft exceeds its critical Mach number, the speed at which shockwaves form. Learn how Mach buffet affects aircraft performance, stability, and safety, and how pilots and designers manage it.
The U-2's speed margin, at high altitude, between 1-g stall warning buffet and Mach buffet can be as small as 5 knots. [5] Aircraft capable of flying close to their critical Mach number usually carry a machmeter, an instrument which indicates speed in Mach number terms.
11 Απρ 2017 · Learn about the coffin corner, the region of flight where stall speed and critical mach number are close, and how it affects jet aircraft. Find out what causes mach buffet, a buffet caused by supersonic flow over the wing, and how to avoid it.
8 Ιαν 2016 · Buffet is a kind of vibration caused by aerodynamic excitation, usually associated with separated (or turbulent) airflow. As the aircraft approaches stall, the airflow over the wing becomes turbulent and if it flows across the horizontal stabilizer, buffeting may occur.
In aviation, coffin corner (or Q corner) refers to the point at which the Flight Envelope boundary defined by a high incidence stall intersects with that defined by the critical Mach number.
Mach buffet is a function of the speed of the airflow over the wing—not necessarily the forward speed of the airplane, and the shock wave strength, rather than a stall, creates the airflow separation. Mach buffet may result from two different conditions in cruise.
