Hunting Licenses and Permits. To hunt in Maine, you must have a valid hunting license. Hunting licenses are valid for one calendar year, starting January 1 (or on the date of purchase if after January 1). The type of license you need depends upon your age, if you are a Maine resident or nonresident, hunting method, and other factors.

Sunday Hunting is Illegal in Maine To hunt means to pursue, catch, take, kill or harvest wild birds and wild animals (wild by nature, whether or not bred or reared in captivity), including any physical part of that species of mammal or bird.
Hunting and trapping must conform with State of Maine laws, MDIFW rules, and local ordinances. Trapping on state park or historic site land in organized townships requires the written permission of the Bureau.
