23 Φεβ 2016 · Tuesday of the Second Week of Lent – Matthew 23:1-12. Today Jesus is being very critical of the Pharisees and the scribes. First, Jesus tells his listeners that they should observe the teachings of the Pharisees. He has no problem with their teaching because their teachings are correct.
In verses 1-12, Jesus speaks to His disciples within the ear-shot of the gathered multitudes, and warns them not to follow the hypocritical practices of the scribes and Pharisees. Then, in verses 13-36, we read of the "woes" He speaks directly upon the scribes and Pharisees themselves.
In Matthew 23:1-12, Jesus provides us with profound insights into Christian discipleship and spiritual growth. It’s a reminder that our faith should be authentic, characterized by humility and a willingness to serve.
