MCM means 1000's (M) of (C)ircular (M)ils. kcmil means 1000's (K) of (C)ircular (M)ils. Mil means 1/1000 inch. Circular Mil means the area of a circle 1/1000 inch in diameter.
When a wire is larger than 0000, it has to be measured in MCM (thousands of circular mils), or kcmil. MCM and kcmil can be used interchangeably, but most people are familiar with MCM measurements. MCM sizing starts at 250 kcmil – slightly larger than a 4/0 wire.
kcmil or MCM are considered bigger wires (bigger than AWG wires). We generally use these thick wires when we need more than 200 amp service. Which kcmil wire exactly we need for carrying high currents is determined by the kcmil wire size chart (check the chart further on).
kcmil (or MCM; it’s the same) stands for thousands of circular mils. These are the big wires that carry more than 200 amps. You have 250 kcmil, 300 kcmil, 350 kcmil, 400 kcmil wires all the way to the biggest 2000 kcmil wire. AWG stands for American Wire Gauge. These are standard wires we use in everyday life for below 200 amp service.
5 Απρ 2022 · A Wire Size Chart AWG MCM can help you determine the ideal size for your wiring project. When selecting the right size of wire, it’s important to consider the voltage, current, and temperature requirements of your specific application.
Wire AWG Size Conversion Calculator. This tool is used to calculate the nominal equivalent values of wire sizes such as American Wire Gauge [AWG], Square Millimeter Area [mm 2], Circular Mil Area [CMA], and more.
Wire resistance calculations. The n gauge wire resistance R in ohms per kilofeet (Ω/kft) is equal to 0.3048×1000000000 times the wire's resistivity ρ in ohm-meters (Ω·m) divided by 25.4 2 times the cross sectional area A n in square inches (in 2): R n (Ω/kft) = 0.3048 × 10 9 × ρ (Ω·m) / (25.4 2 × A n (in 2))
