8 Οκτ 2024 · Mean, Median and Mode are essential statistical measures of central tendency that provide different perspectives on data sets. The mean provides a general average, making it useful for evenly distributed data.
There is no widely accepted standard notation for the median, but some authors represent the median of a variable x as med (x), x͂, [3] as μ1/2, [1] or as M. [3][4] In any of these cases, the use of these or other symbols for the median needs to be explicitly defined when they are introduced.
Generally median represents the mid-value of the given set of data when arranged in a particular order. Median: Given that the data collection is arranged in ascending or descending order, the following method is applied: If number of values or observations in the given data is odd, then the median is given by [ (n+1)/2] th observation.
The median is the value in the middle of the data set. Half of the observations lie above the median and half below. When the data are normally distributed, the median and the mean will be very close to each other.
