13 Μαΐ 2021 · Thanks a lot! I was attempting to set up LaTeX workshop with MiKTeX and was having some trouble. I ended up downloading something called strawberry perl and I also downloaded latexmk using the MiKTeX console. Now it works well though. Do you know if there is any way to stop the notifications you get from the extension when your typing something?
I headed to Github to alert MikTeX developers, but I saw it is a common issue, although apparently ignored with boilerplate message and locked down thread. Based on that, I would advise against using MikTeX for now, as it seems to have become a bit Windows-unfriendly. TeX Live 2019 installed and worked flawlessly and it seems the way to go.
19 Ιουν 2024 · If you install Miktex 24.1 (Windows) and call up "Check for updates" and "Update now" via the console, the update runs until approx. 42% then the process starts to corrupt the entire installation. After termination of the frozen console (after hours), none of the Miktex programs work any more.
By default, MiKTeX is set up for all users to the folder C:\Program Files\MiKTeX 2.9 However, packages added on-the-fly go to the folder. C:\Users\CurrentUser\AppData\Roaming\MiKTeX\2.9 (in case of Windows 7) specific for the current user. As to me, it was the origin for subtle errors when I tried to update my MiKTeX installation.

2 Μαρ 2023 · What are the current differences between MikTeX and TeXLive?This question has many answers, but most of them are quite old, and it isn't clear what is still relevant, especially since MikTeX has undergone significant changes recently (notably - added support for Linux and macOS).
Although you may still find the old releases of MikTeX MiKTeX Releases, you will quickly find out that the older versions are not avaliable anymore, e.g., MiKTeX 2.4 Status. I would strongly recommend you to ask a more specific question about the problem you are dealing with. For example, which style, class, package, etc. is not working.
2 Φεβ 2019 · It appears that the MiKTeX console, for whatever ridiculous reason, does not simply check for other instances of the miktex-console.exe process, and instead generates this "miktex-console.lock" file when launched. Deleting the offending file whenever it is created lets you run as many MiKTeX console instances as you like.
After I clicked the Finish button on the third screenshot above, the MikTeX is still there. I've even rebooted the system and checked the following: MikTeX program is still in Windows' Control Panel's Uninstall Program window. All the MikTeX files are still in C:\Program Files (x86)\MikTeX\.. folder
