So I decided to downgrade to alpha 1.2.6 with MCNOSTALGIA. During alpha, what was the most effective way to find diamond? I usually use during 1.1 the strip mining method. This method is where you dig on levels 6-16 and you dig long rows. What method was best during alpha and what level was diamond found during that time? Thank you.
Lava is common at 11 or below, and diamonds are found randomly below 17. I usually mine when I'm at 12. You skirt just under most caverns, and you bypass most of the lava. Lavabeds can often have diamonds near it as well, so you can use water and take advantage of those open rooms to see if you can find diamonds.
First find a hill or mountain on the same level the oceans/rivers are. Dig in the mountain/hill at that SAME level. Make a room on the level with chests/furnaces/crafting tables. Once you do that, make a stairway DOWN 52 levels (there should be 52 stairs). Then start mining in random non-geometric shapes. I found a vein of 5 diamonds doing this.

30 Αυγ 2018 · Level 11 is good, higher has fewer diamond ore, 6-10 have slightly more but the lava will give you more trouble. Personally I stick to straight tunnels 3 blocks apart because I find mining peaceful and don't want to have to stop and dig the poke holes and I do a lot of mining and spacing the tunnels further apart makes my main "backbone" tunnels much longer so I need to put in tracks for mine ...

However, level 10 also has the most redstone, and even if you don't use redstone, the experience it's worth makes level 10 the best level to mine on in my opinion. To counter the lava pools you might run into, use water and blocks to turn it to obsidian, and try to get a diamond pickaxe with a high level of efficiency.
Also, in terms of total blocks mined / diamond ore mined caving is indisputably the most efficient way to find diamonds, as long as you don't mine every single ore like I do, giving me a worse ratio overall than from branch-mining; of course, including all ores found while branch-mining would reduce its efficiency as well but from my last experience I found 85 diamond ore out of about 10,400 ...
At different types of Superflat worlds, ores, villages, dungeons, strongholds, mineshafts, etc. will spawn. I prefer "Tunneler's Dream" cause it has a 200+ block layer of stone, but above sea level, only coal ores will spawn. Before you can do this, you need to edit stuff on the types of Superflat world you wanna spawn.
