30 Αυγ 2016 · A mobile library is a unique and dynamic service that directly connects books, media, and educational resources to communities through a mobile vehicle or unit. It is designed to overcome geographical, social, and economic barriers to library access, reaching individuals with limited or no access to traditional library facilities.
The mobile library isn’t a bookmobile driving between locations; rather, the mobile library refers to library services and materials that are available 24 hours a day on any type of device. Applications, or apps, are an emerging technology that is impacting libraries.
The overall objective of a mobile library service is to promote equity of service provision by enhancing the opportunity of access to library services. A mobile library provides the most flexible of library service, not being restricted to any particular population centre and able to respond to the needs of fluctuating populations.
Any library service that does not stay in one place is classed as a Mobile Library. Mobile library services are essential to the Public Library Service and should be seen as an integral part of it.
