This is a list of the most massive stars that have been discovered, in solar mass units (M ☉).
Below are lists of the largest stars currently known, ordered by radius and separated into categories by galaxy. The unit of measurement used is the radius of the Sun (approximately 695,700 km; 432,300 mi). [ 1 ] The Sun, the orbit of Earth, Jupiter, and Neptune, compared to four stars.
28 Ιουλ 2018 · At the top end of the scale, the most massive known star in the sky is R136a1, a star more than 300 times as massive as our sun. And it's not alone in dwarfing Earth's dominant star.
R136a1 (short for RMC 136a1) is one of the most massive and luminous stars known, at nearly 200 M☉ and nearly 4.7 million L☉, and is also one of the hottest, at around 46,000 K.

It's more than 265 times the mass of our Sun, more than double most stars on this list. Astronomers are still trying to understand how the star can even exist. It is also the most luminous at nearly 9 million times that of our Sun.
UY Scuti is the largest star in the Universe observed so far. The red supergiant is 1,708 times wider than our Sun, with a radius of 1.2 billion km (738 million miles). The star can be found around 9,500 light-years away from Earth in the Scutum Constellation, around the centre of the Milky Way.
