21 Ιαν 2018 · Muscles. The muscles that affect the knee’s movement run along the thigh and calf. They are attached to the femur (thighbone), tibia (shinbone), and fibula (calf bone) by fibrous tissues called...
The muscles of the knee include the quadriceps, hamstrings, and the muscles of the calf. These muscles work in groups to flex, extend and stabilize the knee joint. These motions of the knee allow the body to perform such important movements as walking, running, kicking, and jumping.
The hamstrings and quadriceps work together, one contracting (agonist) while the other relaxes (antagonist) to allow the knee to bend and straighten. Here we look at each of the muscles of the knee, how they work, what can go wrong and how to prevent knee muscle injuries.
2 Ιαν 2023 · Knee anatomy involves more than just muscles and bones. Ligaments, tendons, and cartilage work together to connect the thigh bone, shin bone, and knee cap and allow the leg to bend back and forth like a hinge. The largest joint in the body, the knee is also one of the most easily injured.
30 Οκτ 2023 · The knee joint is the largest and arguably the most stressed joint in the body. The arrangement of the bones in the joint provides a fulcrum that translates the actions of the flexor and extensor muscles of the knee.
3 Νοε 2023 · The knee joint consists of two articulations – tibiofemoral and patellofemoral. The joint surfaces are lined with hyaline cartilage and are enclosed within a single joint cavity. Tibiofemoral – medial and lateral condyles of the femur articulate with the tibial condyles. It is the weight-bearing component of the knee joint.
Anatomy. Articulating Surfaces. The thigh bone (femur), the shin bone (tibia) and the kneecap (patella) articulate through tibiofemoral and patellofemoral joints. These three bones are covered in articular cartilage which is an extremely hard, smooth substance designed to decrease the friction forces.
