1960 — The Chargers debut their uniforms, which feature lighting bolts for stripes on the jersey and pants, as well as on the helmet. This first uniform put player numbers on the helmet. 1966 — The San Diego Chargers adopt their signature powder blue uniforms for the first time.
Please check out our increasingly complete “History of Helmet Decals” in the Research section of our site. One lone helmet variation does require a brief description. In 2009, as part of their uniform overhaul, the Jacksonville Jaguars introduced a first-of-its-kind opalescent helmet.
The 1940's was witness to one of the single greatest moments in NFL uniform history: the first helmet design. In 1948, a Los Angeles Rams player painted rams horns on his leather helmet. The number of jersey modifications continues to grow, many teams start switching colors and trying to find the right color combination.
Uniform overhaul: dark bluish-green jersey with three gold bands on sleeves and gold numbers; gold helmets and pants; green and gold striped socks (white helmets were also worn) (PBN) In 1957, Packers began consistently wearing white road uniforms, for television.
