The Nigerian naira notes are the official banknotes of Nigeria, the currency of which is the Nigerian naira (NGN). The naira is subdivided into 100 kobo. The Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) is the sole issuer of legal tender in the country.
In 2012 the Central Bank of Nigeria was contemplating the introduction of new currency denominations of ₦5,000. The bank also made plans to convert ₦5, ₦10, ₦20 and ₦50 into coins which are all presently notes.

The highest banknote denomination was one pound, while the one shilling coin was the highest coin denomination. On 1st July, 1959 the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) issued Nigerian currency banknotes, while the WACB-issued banknotes and coins were withdrawn.
