This is the largest collection of known arsenal stamps to date, and it will be updated accordingly. Many thanks to everyone that contributed all the pictures and examples. If you have something not currently shown, please email me at chinesesks@gmail.com. Thanks.
Literally, millions of SKSs (along with plenty of cheap 7.62×39 to feed them) were imported from China between the mid to late ‘80s and 1994 when President Clinton signed the Norinco Ban, making them the most abundant SKS variant in the United States by far.
With the Type 56 SKS, we don’t have a date stamp, but we can assume that they did similar things at similar times with their numbers systems. Unfortunately, this comparison puts us at odds with the most commonly accepted 1956 + millions = year of manufacture guesstimate that is so prolific around the web.
5 Ιαν 2013 · the rule of thumb for chinese SKS is that if the serial number is 7 digits, the first digit is the amount of years since 1956, in your case 2, so your chinese SKS should be a 1958 production. obviously there is more to it but that is the basic gst of it that works on a large number of chinese SKS.
29 Ιουν 2023 · Date Code Markings: Norinco SKS rifles often feature date code markings that indicate the year of production. These markings can be found on various rifle parts, such as the receiver, bolt carrier, or trigger assembly.
18 Μαρ 2022 · Many different kinds of the SKS were imported over the years, it can be difficult to know what kind of SKS you’re looking at. This guide may help identify all manner of Simonov carbines and their rough value.
21 Μαρ 2021 · These odd unmarked (no Type 56, no arsenal, no year of production indicator) late production SKSs show up occasionally. Either scrubbed and renumbered or assembled from blank parts by Norinco. Regardless it looks like a nice clean Chinese SKS (that needs a spike bayonet).
