The North Field is the world's largest natural gas field, and its exploitation will place Qatar in the top ranks of the world's gas producers. Natural gas from other fields provides fuel for power generation and raw materials for fertilizers, petrochemicals, and steel plants.

25 Νοε 2022 · The North Field South (NFS) project is the planned second phase expansion of Qatar’s North Field, the world’s largest single non-associated gas field. The 16-metric tonnes per annum (mtpa) NFS Project, along with the first expansion phase North Field East (NFE) Project, will increase LNG production from the offshore North Field.
The North Field lies off the north-east shore of the Qatar peninsula and covers an area of more than 6,000 square kilometres, equivalent to about half the land area of the State of Qatar. The development of this major natural resource has been a significant factor in Qatar's economic growth.
26 Φεβ 2024 · In line with Qatar’s plans to boost LNG production, Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani, Amir of the State of Qatar, laid the foundation stone of the North Field expansion project on Tuesday, October 3, 2023.
