  4. I went there in 1955 and was in both schools. I got the bus to the nursery school, the fare was a halfpenny. The headmaster was Major or Captain Robinson. We sat the 11 plus in a school off the Limestone Road. We were encouraged to play cricket at Cliftonville as one of the teachers played there.

Being chased by the Parkie was a matter of course - usually because the older boys taunted him and we all had to run! The church in Hope St was St Andrew's and was demolished and turned into a car park.

  6. How did you people from Ligoniel pronounce it?. My mother came from Ardoyne and had friends in Ligoniel. She used to prounounce it Laganeil and my husband used to argue that it was Lig (rhymes with jig). So how did the ones who lived their pronounce it?. Just curious.

  7. 1 Ιουν 2011 · Below the church in the 50/60s there was an old fashioned Nursery belonging to a family from Redhill in England. My mother knew them during the war in Redhill. The entrance to Cregagh Cricket Club was along a little lane between the Nursery and the Church. The Scout hut used to be at the end of this lane.

  9. 16 Ιαν 2010 · OMG I had forgotten about that playground. Wasn't there a nursery there? I loved the swingboats. My aunt worked in the "Wheeta" and her wee girl went to the nursery. What was the "Wheeta" and is that the right name for it? Did they make tinned fruit or something like that.

  10. Lets see what there is in the Knockbreda area of Belfast. There's a Nursery School, a Primary School, a High School (apparently with no website), some interesting Mausolea in the Churchyard, and a Cemetery (Castlereagh Borough Council are responsible for it's upkeep).
